      <image:title>FoodFile - FoodFile</image:title>
<image:caption>In the User Interface Design course I took in my Fall 2019 semester at College of Charleston, I partnered with two other students from my class to create the concept and prototype for FoodFile, an app that would allow users to catalog and track the food in their kitchens. Throughout the semester, we worked towards the ultimate goal of creating a high-fidelity prototype of our app idea. We practiced each step of creating a smartphone application with the user in mind: describing our projected userbase, creating user personas and user scenarios, creating a conceptual model, creating a hierarchical task analysis, etc. From these steps, we went on to create a low-fidelity prototype which we tested on other classmates, made adjustments, and went on to create our high-fidelity prototype in Figma. In retrospect, I definitely think there were some things we could have done differently—the design could have been tweaked to be a bit sleeker and more modern, and I would have liked to further explore the social/sharing aspects—but overall I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project, and am proud of our results.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Design - Magickal Carbonated Teas - Magickal</image:title>
<image:caption>Magickal Carbonated Teas is a fictional sparkling tea brand of my own creation. The herbal quality of tea made me think of folk medicine, which has close ties to traditional ideas of magic and witchcraft. These concepts were the basis of the branding. I drew a lot of inspiration from tarot card illustrations and fairy tale imagery, especially Hansel and Gretel. I went with a really bright palette to modernize it a little bit, as well as because I think such colors really suit food and beverage packaging. Mock-ups include cans for four flavors, boxes of eight that correspond with those flavors, and a couple of merchandise options that hardcore fans of the brand could purchase in an online store.</image:caption>

<image:title>Design - Lord, Help Us All - Lord, Help Us All</image:title>
<image:caption>“Lord, help us all get back to Pageland!” This phrase is something of an inside joke in my family. It originated with my great-grandmother, Grandma Fannie, who once exclaimed this in protest when my mom took her to have an MRI. It made my mom laugh, and the memory has stuck with her. It has since become one of her many catchphrases, applicable in any number of situations, but used especially to express exasperation or discomfort (and always exclaimed with an air of humor). I decided to design a t-shirt using the expression to gift to her for Mother’s Day. Pageland, our hometown, is a small rural town in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. We’re the self-proclaimed “Watermelon Capital of the World” (one of at least seven such capitals in the U.S.). There’s a Watermelon Festival every July, winners of the local pageant are dubbed Watermelon Queens, and the water tower in town has watermelon painted on the side. That said, it was a no-brainer to include watermelon in the shirt’s imagery. I wanted to draw on my mom’s nostalgia in a joyful way, and so it seemed logical to include a laughing little girl eating the melon. My mom’s early childhood spanned the ‘70s, so everything from the fonts to the little girl’s hair and clothes are 1970s-inspired. The artwork is all original vector illustration. Mock-ups courtesy of the Custom Ink website, which I ordered the t-shirt from.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This design is the result of an assignment for which I was asked to create a postcard invitation. I thought that the Murder Mystery theme would be an interesting concept that could allow for some dramatic design elements. I layered different images and blended them into each other. I chose to make the images black and white to evoke the idea of old noir detective films. This also allowed me to use bright reds and yellows in the fonts and other design elements.</image:caption>

I stitched together cinematic imagery for the bottom half, overlaying and blending different stock images. The solid blocks of color are meant to provide some contrast to the busyness of these images, and make the informational text easier to read.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Design - Examples From School - Movie Poster</image:title>
<image:caption>In this design, I created a poster for a fictional film which I titled Midnight in Osaka. I decided early on that I wanted it to have a cyberpunk or neonoir feel, with high contrast in lights and shadows and lots of neon colors. I found the photo of the car which had a lot of blues and pinks, so I decided to run with that color palette.</image:caption>
